Wishful Thinking

"Did that really happen, or was it just wishful thinking?” is a frequent topic of conversation at our house. Sometimes, in our/my effort to be positive and upbeat, we/I might just stretch the truth a little. For example:

  • Did she say she'd pay for it, or was it just wishful thinking?
  • Will my granddaughter really be visiting, or was it just wishful thinking?
  • Am I really presymptomatic, or was it just wishful thinking?
  • Did I pass a clean genetic future to my daughters and granddaughter, or was it just wishful thinking?
  • Did my untested brother tell me that he is planning on being tested, or was it just wishful thinking?
  • Will I ever write a blog again, or was it just wishful thinking?

Fearing that I'm really not a very good writer, I haven't attempted to blog in over a month, but I've done quite a bit of research of bloggers of the past. When I googled a possible title for my latest blog, I stumbled upon some very beautiful writings by Sandy. The first one is entitled "The Eye of the Storm." When she recorded her story, she was already symptomatic, and she shares in amazing, stark clarity the details of her journey. Trish Dainton, whose husband died of HD some time ago, wrote "Curse in Verse and Much More Worse," which has actually been published! She also has a Facebook site where she share the writing of others, too.
One of the other writers that I admire is Gene Veritas, who just celebrated his tenth anniversary of coming out of the genetic closet, and still has no symptoms. His thorough writings are more than marvelous! He has inspired so many members of the HD community over the years. There are some new writers who have been posting on HD Facebook sites lately, including Sarah Parker Foster, who write from the point of one who is already symptomatic.

I'm glad that so many writers are, like me, using their remaining time,
(and marbles - or is it wishful thinking?) to encourage others!
